Advice & advocacy

We provide advice and information to women affected by domestic abuse on benefits and welfare rights, immigration issues (including no recourse to legal funds and the rights of non-British citizens), children’s and young people’s issues, legal support, housing and financial support.

We give time to offer emotional support – offering the support of someone to talk to, to advise on various options available towards safeguarding.  We also provide support with legal remedies and court hearings. We will work through the obstacles which create barriers to actions or decision making for those we work with.

GP and NHS Domestic Abuse Specific Support:  We support GPs by taking referrals via a special web tool which we are scaling up to reach more people to encourage early intervention (The Lotus).  The tool is designed to simply, safely and quickly enable either GPs to make a referral for a patient or for individuals to make self referrals from GP surgeries.

Our staff are happy to support local organisations (schools, health services, social services, police and law enforcement, etc.) by discussing our work and promoting awareness about domestic abuse. Please email us at if you’d like to discuss how Aanchal can work with your organisation.

Aanchal team members are also available on NU SOUND RADIO (on 92FM) every Tuesday between 12pm and 1pm. Tune in to listen to useful advice and listen to the experiences of others. Topics we’ve covered on our radio show include forced marriage, children’s issues, and immigration support. If you’d like to suggest a topic for us to cover on the show, please email us at
